The correct way to check the nodes programmatically is by setting the SelectedText and SelectedValue properties of the DropDownTree as explained in https://docs.telerik.com/devtools/aspnet-ajax/controls/dropdowntree/how-to/how-to-pre-select-a-node-based-on-text-or-value
